Fabulous article. It is not as easy as some people might think to teach in France, either privately or in…
Oh my goodness, how is it that if you have taken a break from sport, you find that you are right back to zero again in terms of fitness? I mean literally gasping for breath afterwards… wait for it, 8 minutes of high-intensity walking. The doctor “recommended” I get off my bum and start some…
As some of you know, I have just started teaching on a new platform «Preply». It is much like the other platforms where a commission is taken and you get your fee at the end. The revelation for me though is that I am in charge of my own hours, pricing and even the students…
Cold flushes on a summer’s day can perhaps be thought of as being a “good” symptom of the menopause, however once you have turned blue and you shiver uncontrollably for the hundredth time this year and reach for the hot water bottle for a temporary fix, it suddenly doesn’t seem that much of a boon.…
As the year nears its end, I find myself wondering about the sanity of starting a blog. Hanging out your washing to dry for all to see was not the intention but more an evaluation of whether we could live more sustainably in a society that buffets us consistently with consumerism dilemmas. Should we try…
Prats de Molló is a small unique village in the Pyrénées, recently labelled one of the most beautiful villages in France. Having only lived here for a few months, we have already become enchanted with its beautiful landscapes, historic buildings and friendly population. Although small, it has everything you might want on offer. National parks…
After a couple of years of accidents, injuries and poor mental health, this year will be a focus on my physical and psychological well-being. Gone are the days of silly diets and mad resolutions. This time it will be a year of trying to look after my body as carefully as possible. I will probably…
A walk in the woods and a friendly face was all it took to get rid of writer’s block. November is the time when budding authors try to write their musings in the space of a month, “NaNoWriMo“. A stressful time to try to get all your words onto the page in the right order,…
Sometimes all it takes is a tiny moment and the whole day can turn on itself. This was the case this weekend. It was the weekend when one of our boys comes home regularly from university to get cuddles from the menagerie of animals, sleep with the cats in his bed, and generally stuff his…
I have been thinking about doing an article on this subject for a number of years, but suddenly it feels like the right time. My question to you readers is, do most people know what and how debilitating this condition sometimes is? We at the time didn’t even acknowledge or realise it’s existence. Just over…
COVID for us was perhaps the ‘last straw’. Harsh realities had to be faced. In essence a midlife crisis, or a complete meltdown with the wine! Our adventure in France had reached a fork in the road.
The first frightening step was taken in July 2021 as we sold our farmhouse and immediately bought a terraced village house in the Pyrénées mountains, the total opposite of what we had ever known before! Since then my husband and I have changed our jobs, got rid of a car, and are on the next step of our new journey, perhaps in some ways the hardest leg, towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
For a few years we will be recording our progress as a family, as we try to drastically change the way we live, eat and travel, within reason financially and socially. Join me as we move not only mentally from one lifestyle to another, but also physically from mainland South of France to the depths (or the heights) of the Pyrénées. Perhaps in hindsight not the best choice of location for an acrophobe!
Thank you so much for your comment! Kind regards, Carinne
